The Yaesu FT-818ND QRP Portable Multimode Transceiver builds upon the legacy of its predecessor, the FT-817ND, by integrating enhancements that cater to the needs of amateur radio operators worldwide. This compact transceiver delivers a solid output power of 6W when connected to an external DC power source. At the same time, the upgraded Ni-MH battery pack (SBR-32MH) offers a larger capacity of 9.6V and 1900mAh, ensuring longer operational time. The FT-818 also features a built-in TCXO-9 oscillator, providing exceptional frequency stability at ±0.5ppm, making it an ideal choice for satellite communications enthusiasts.

Regarding functionality, the FT-818ND is equipped with a comprehensive suite of features that enhance its usability. It supports dual VFOs and split-frequency operation and includes advanced options like IF Shift, Clarifier, and an IF Noise Blanker. Operators can benefit from RF Gain and Squelch control and the IPO (Intercept Point Optimization) feature. The transceiver is versatile, capable of receiving AM aircraft and broadcast signals, and it includes a built-in electronic keyer with an adjustable CW pitch. Users can easily manage their preferred frequencies with 208 memory channels organized into ten groups.

The FT-818ND is designed for portability and ease of use, operating across a wide frequency range from 160m to 70cm bands. It features two antenna connectors and supports various operational modes, including CW “Semi-Break-in” and Automatic Repeater Shift (ARS). The multi-colour LCD is easy to read, and additional features such as Automatic Power-Off (APO) and a front panel essential lock mode enhance its functionality.
