The Yaesu FTM-400DE dual-band mobile transceiver is a versatile communication device operating on 2 meters and 70 centimetres. It supports four operational modes: V/D mode, Voice FR mode, Data FR mode, and Analog FM mode. The V/D mode allows simultaneous voice and data communication with robust error correction, making it ideal for C4FM FDMA Digital HAM radio. Voice FR mode focuses on delivering high-quality voice data. In contrast, Data FR mode is optimized for transferring large amounts of data, including text messages and images, at double the speed of V/D mode. Analog FM mode is a fallback for weak signals, ensuring communication remains possible even at the noise threshold.
The FTM-400DE is equipped with an Automatic Mode Select (AMS) function, automatically detecting and switching between the four modes based on the received signal. Users can select power output levels of 50, 20, or 5 watts for either band, enhancing versatility in various communication scenarios. The radio features a wideband receive capability from 108-470 and 800-999 MHz, excluding cellular frequencies. Additionally, it supports four scan modes: VFO, Memory, Programmable Memory, and Selected Memory, with a capacity of 500 memories per band. Each memory can store comprehensive information, including frequency, mode, and repeater details.
This transceiver also offers customizable visual options, allowing users to set the screen background to one of five colours. Notably, the FTM-400DE can connect to a USB camera for capturing images and videos, which can then be transmitted and received. It includes a microSD card port for expanded storage. The package comes with essential accessories, including a DTMF hand mic, mounting bracket, control cable, and owner’s manual, making it a well-rounded solution for amateur radio enthusiasts.
