A New Innovative Shack Style

In today’s connected world, the IC-7760 introduces a new connected system consisting of a remote control head and RF deck, connected with a commercially available control (LAN) cable.  This concept increases the flexibility of your station installation, making more space available on the desktop by placing the RF deck in an area closer to the antenna feed point.  In addition to the direct connect feature, control head to RF deck, utilize your home network to make any tabletop your shack and a PC is not required!

Improved Installation Flexibility and Space-saving Operation

The IC-7760 consists of a separate remote control head and RF deck and uses a LAN cable for connecting between them. It increases the flexibility of the installation. A control cable (3 m, 9.8 ft) is supplied with the transceiver, and a commercially available LAN cable* can be used to install the RF deck in a more remote location. It enables the RF deck to be placed in a rack or other location away from the station desktop, providing a quiet shack environment away from the noise of the fan used to dissipate the heat generated by the RF deck.

In-house Remote Operation

The IC-7760 can be connected to the control head and RF deck through a wired home LAN network*. This gives the user even greater flexibility of the RF deck. Because of its simple configuration that does not require a PC, the control head of the 7760 can be moved anywhere in the house and operated not only from the shack but also from the living room, etc., as long as a LAN connection is available.

* Communication between the control head and the RF deck depends on the network environment in which it is used. Gigabit Ethernet is required.
The control head can be used on a different network segment than the RF deck such as over a network switch.

The IC-7760 has independent MAIN/SUB receivers, from the antenna to the speaker, so that one receiver section has no effect on the other, providing simultaneous reception of two signals in different bands/modes with identical performance. As with the IC-7851, dual spectrum scopes provide simultaneous display of the MAIN and SUB bands allowing the operator to see the changing band conditions.

Advanced RF Direct Sampling System

The IC-7760 adopts the RF direct sampling system, in which RF signals are directly converted to digital signals and the signals are processed by an FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array). This system avoids non-linear distortions that occur in mixer stages during the analog signal processing. In addition, by employing DSP units in both the RF deck and control head, the IC-7760 is able to handle complex audio path switching due to various interface inputs and outputs, while minimizing delay in a home LAN environment.

DIGI-SEL and Preamp

The DIGI-SEL (Digital Pre-selector) is highly effective in rejecting out-of-band strong signals such as from broadcasting stations or multi-multi operation. In conventional models (such as IC-7850/51 or IC-7610), the DIGI-SEL circuit was located soon after the RF input (antenna) to prevent signal distortion by  out-of-band interference. Even if the preamp was turned ON, the noise figure (receiver sensitivity) could not be improved, as DIGI-SEL had an insertion loss due to its narrow bandwidth. In the IC-7760, which is a direct sampling system, DIGI-SEL prevents overflow (OVF) due to unwanted out-of-band signals rather than signal distortion, and the preamp uses the A/D converter to take full advantage of its dynamic range. When preamp is turned ON in the IC-7760, the preamp enhances the intended signal first, then DIGI-SEL filters out unwanted out-of-band signals. This makes it possible that the preamp works together with DIGI-SEL.

While the previous model covered HF bands with a 9-separated BPF (Band Pass Filter), the IC-7760 uses an 11-separated BPF in HF bands. In addition, by employing sharp filters specialized for each amateur band, the BPF efficiently attenuates out-of-band interference signals in the RF stage, and prevents overflow at the A/D converter.

The DPD function corrects non-linear distortion at the final amplifier by applying inverse distortion in advance. A clean signal transmission is achieved while providing 200 W of high output power at the same time. The DPD function also works at the 1 kW output in combination with the IC-PW2*.

The IC-7760 uses a 450 W-class 65 V LDMOS-FET in the PA section, combined with a large heat sink and effective cooling system to achieve a generous 200 W full power full duty operation*. Continuous FT8 mode operation is also possible. Furthermore, modulation and frequency conversion are made through digital signal processing, the D/A converter directly outputs the transmit frequency, achieving the purest transmission C/N. By using 450 W FETs device in 200 W output, the PA achieves excellent IMD characteristics.

Once tuned, the matching information is automatically recalled the next time the frequency is selected, facilitating smooth band changes and multi-band operation.

The IC-7760 control head has main and sub dual displays. The displays are one 7-inch-wide main display (800 × 480 pixels, WVGA) and one 2.4-inch sub display (320 × 240 pixels) and both displays are touch screens. The main display shows information necessary for operation, including MAIN/SUB operating frequencies, setting/operating status of each function, as well as the spectrum scope, S-meter, and RTTY/PSK31/63 decoding messages.

The 2.4-inch sub display can show the filter settings, various meters, and a band stacking register. The filter setting screen can display the IF filter passband width and IF filter shape superimposed on the IF filter passband signal. Top-to-bottom Dual Scope Example

The dual Spectrum Scope provides excellent sweep speed, resolution, and a wide dynamic range of 100 dB with FPGA, DSP and CPU combined processing for main and sub bands. It can also monitor two different bands at the same time, which is useful for monitoring conditions and during contests. Dual scopes can be shown left-to-right or top-to-bottom layout, depending on the situation and needs. In the Continuous SCROLL mode, a wide bandwidth exceeding 1 MHz can be seen on the scope screen. The waterfall display shows changes in the frequency spectrum vertically, enabling the user to find a weak signal that is difficult to detect with the spectrum scope. Increases QSO possibilities without missing weak DX stations.

Audio Scope Flexibility

The Audio Scope screen shows the transmit and received signal’s frequency components on the FFT scope, and its waveform components on the Oscilloscope. The Audio Scope makes it easy to monitor signal characteristics such as microphone compressor level, filter width, and notch filter. You can monitor received CW keying wave forms in the Oscilloscope.

FT8 can be easily set up by simply selecting it from the [Preset] memory and all necessary items can be set at once. In addition, up to 3 [Preset] memories can be written to presets SSTV as well as future new digital modes to be supported.

By connecting the optional RC-28 via USB connection, the SUB band tuning of the IC-7760 can be conveniently operated with your fingertips. MAIN/SUB switching buttons can be assigned to the F-1 and F-2 buttons on the RC-28 and it can operate as the main dial for both MAIN and SUB bands. This allows for quick response to DXpedition stations in split operation, as well as Dualwatch.

When the multi-dial knob is pressed, menu items appear on the right side of the display next to the dial. Following months of speculation and excitement surrounding our top-secret “X60 Project,” ICOM officially unveiled the highly anticipated IC-7760 today at the Tokyo Hamfair (August 24th & 25th 2024).The IC-7760 is a 200 W HF/50 MHz Amateur radio transceiver. SDR HF/50MHz Transceiver

Whether it is poor band conditions, or battling to pick out a call in a large pile-up, faint signals have always been a challenge for DXers and Contesters around the world. The difference between putting the QSO in the log or having to try another time is the capability of your receiver. One key factor is the RMDR capabilities, the ability to pick out a faint signal in the presence of stronger, adjacent signals. The IC-7610 introduces dual RF direct sampling receivers, achieving 110dB RMDR, rivalling that of top-of-the-line transceivers.

Innovative RF Direct Sampling System
Introduced with the IC-7300, Icom’s RF Direct Sampling System has made SDR performance affordable. Direct Sampling means incoming RF signals are digitized by the Analog-to-Digital Converter and immediately processed by the FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array). This process dramatically reduces distortion that naturally occurs in the various mixer stages found in traditional superheterodyne receivers.

Astonishing 110 dB* RMDR
The RF Direct Sampling system in the IC-7610 is capable of 110 dB RMDR. This performance gives you the ability to pull weak signals out of the noise of strong adjacent signals. There is a difference you can hear as the desired signal comes out of the pileup!

Customized VCXO Is Used for the Master Clock
Reducing phase noise in a receiver is always a challenge as it is a natural characteristic of a receiver. The master clock of the IC-7610 utilises a low phase noise VCXO (Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillator), combined with Icom’s years of technical expertise to design a common power supply for the VCXO and FPGA, yielding an ultra-low phase noise. Also, a 10 MHz reference signal can be input to the IC-7610 for higher precision.

Independent Dual Receiver
Whether listening to both sides of a rare DX station running split or looking for a multiplier on a different band or mode, the dual receivers in the IC-7610 have you covered. Two separate DIGI-SEL preselectors, two separate Band Pass Filter networks, feed two independent A/D converters into the FPGA.

DIGI-SEL for Main and Sub Bands
The DIGI-SEL preselectors are RF filters with sharp, narrow passband characteristics preventing Analog-to-Digital Converter overflow from large out-of-band signals when sampling the RF signals. Additionally, the third and higher order IMD components are reduced. This is ideal when strong signals are received in a contest pile-up or from broadcast stations on adjacent frequencies or bands.

High-Quality Speaker Sound
To finish out the receiver is an internal speaker cabinet. The cabinet is tuned to reproduce clear, natural sounding audio, and is insulated from the radio chassis to prevent noise from vibration and panel resonance.

Digital-Up-Conversion (DUC) for Clean TX 
Breaking with the tradition of mixing a carrier signal with a local oscillator, a Digital-Up-Conversion (DUC) method is used to generate the required signal from the Digital-to-Analogue Converter. The chart to the right shows the difference made by this new design.

Built-in Automatic Antenna Tuner
The built-in automatic antenna tuner memorises its settings based on your transmit frequency so that it can recall the tuning setting when you switch operating bands. The emergency tuner function* enables you to work for short periods of time with an antenna with a high SWR.

7-inch Colour Display with Touch Screen Function
The large 7-inch colour display shows various operating and setting information at a glance in high resolution (800 × 480 pixels.) The display shows multiple features, for example, the dual spectrum scope aligned vertically or horizontally, simulated analogue meters and RTTY, PSK31/63 mode decoded messages.

Dual Receivers, Dual Spectrum Scopes
The IC -7610 provides dual reception, on different bands, as does the high-speed, high-resolution spectrum scopes. Whether watching for a band opening, working a rare DX station operating split, or searching for a multiplier, the ability to watch each receiver separately allows the operator to concentrate on pulling in a weak signal. The scopes provide class-leading performance in resolution, sweep speed and a 100 dB dynamic range. To navigate around the band easier, connect a PC mouse to the USB port for point and click tuning of the receivers.

Audio Scope Flexibility
The Audio Scope screen shows both an FFT scope with a waterfall along with an oscilloscope for both transmit and receive audio. This makes it easy to monitor AF characteristics such as microphone compressor level, filter width, notch filter, and in CW, you can monitor received CW keying waveforms.

Touch Screen and Multi-Dial Knob for Smooth Operation The combination of the touchscreen and the multi-dial knob offers quick and smooth operation. When you push the multi-dial knob, menu items are shown on the right side of the display. You can select an item by touching the screen and can adjust the levels by turning the multi-dial knob.

Remote Encoder for Second VFO Knob
The optional RC-28 remote encoder enables you to add an external Sub dial for controlling the Sub-band. Main band and Sub band can be switched with the F1 and F2 buttons and can be controlled with the RC-28. The LED above the F1 and F2 buttons turns ON to show the active band.

DVI-D Connector for an External Display Connection
The IC-7610 has a DVI-D connector for an external display. Operating frequency, setting information and spectrum scope can be observed on a large external screen.

SD Card Slot and USB Port for Saving Data
When used with an SD card or USB flash drive, various contents including firmware updates, memory channels, captured screen images, and other personal settings, can be saved and loaded. TX/RX audio, voice memories, RTTY/CW memories and RTTY decode logs can be saved and used on the SD card.

I/Q Signal Output
The IC-7610 enables you to output I/Q signals from the USB connector. They can be used to analyse a spectrum range or to decode signals by a decoder software on a PC.
*This function will be provided in a future firmware update

Simplified Remote Control for RS-BA1
Whether from a remote part of your home QTH, or on a remote location somewhere around the world, the RS-BA1 software enables you to operate your IC-7610. Not only can you control the radio settings and have both RX/TX audio paths, but you are also able to display a single band spectrum scope with the waterfall. With the addition of an Ethernet connector, a base station computer is not required.

ID-50E Dual Band D-STAR Digital Transceiver

The ID-50E is a compact VHF/UHF dual bander with D-STAR (Digital Smart Technology for Amateur Radio) and FM dual modes. Connecting to the Digital network with your ID-50E, you can call a friend in another city or other regions worldwide. Smart functions in this radio also include Band Scope and Picture Sharing function to enhance your QSO experience.

DR (D-STAR Repeater) Function
The DR function makes communication using D-STAR repeaters easier and simpler. Selecting “FROM”(access repeater) and “TO” (destination), you can make QSO calls including Local Area call, Gateway call, and Simplex call. Combined with the GPS function, you can make selection of a local repeater available based on your location. In addition, the DR function supports reflector linking controls.

Picture Sharing Function with the ST-ID50A/W picture utility software
You can share pictures with each other in DV mode. Photos on your Android™ device can be edited and shared on the ST-ID50A picture utility software. Utilising windows PC through a microSD card or a USB cable is also available with the ST-ID50W. It is also possible to check your pictures on the ID-50E display before sending it to others. Enjoy sharing pictures together with voice messages.
* Share Picture function requires the optional ST-ID50A picture utility software (on Google Play™) or ST-ID50W (Download from Icom website) and user supplied USB Type-C/USB Type-C cable.

Terminal Mode and Access Point Mode
Connect the ID-50E to the Internet through a Windows PC or an Android device. The Internet gateway (using Terminal mode and Access Point mode) enables you to access the D-STAR repeater network, even from areas where no D-STAR repeater is directly accessible via radio.
• The RS-MS3W optional software (Download from Icom website) and user supplied USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable are required for Access Point mode. The RS-MS3A optional application software (Download on Google Play™) and user supplied USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable are required for Terminal mode.
• Terminal and Access Point modes are compatible with the Icom RS-RP3 Gateway Software. If your D-STAR repeater is running G1 or G2 software, ask the repeater administrator to contact the local Icom Distributor to upgrade the software.
• You need an Internet connection with an IPv4 Global IP address. If you use a cellular system, you need an IPv4 Global IP address assigned to your Android™ device.

Band Scope with Waterfall display
The Band Scope with Waterfall display helps you to see band conditions in more detail and find active channels or an open frequency. The Waterfall display shows the presence or absence of signals and even the signal level. The Band Scope mode is selectable for Center, Fixed, and Fixed Scroll modes.

D-STAR Text Messaging
By installing RS-MS1A App on your Android™ device, you can easily send text messages using your device’s keyboard. Also with the RS-MS1A, you can remotely control the transceiver operation and set various functions from your Android™ device.

IPX7 Waterproof and Tough Construction
The ID-50E features superior IPX7* waterproofing and commercial grade construction. You can enjoy outdoor activities with it even in harsh environments.
*1 m depth of water for 30 minutes.

Dualwatch Function
The Dualwatch function* monitors the VHF/VHF, VHF/UHF and UHF/UHF bands simultaneously. You can quickly respond to a call from the Main and Sub bands.
* DV/DV mode cannot be listened at the same time.

VHF Airband and FM Broadcast Receiver
FM broadcast and Airband can be listened to. You can enjoy receiving a variety of channels.

MicroSD Card Slot
You can store QSO Recording, TX Voice Memory, pictures, QSOs and GPS log data. Firmware upgrades, Repeater lists and other personal settings onto a microSD card (up to 32 GB). This can then be uploaded into your ID-50E.

Find Nearby Repeaters at a New Location
With the built-in GPS, your location and current Grid Square information can be checked by other stations. You can check the distance to other stations as well. The GPS position data can be used for Position Auto Reply, Near Repeater Search, and GPS log functions.

Charging with a USB type-C™ Connector
The ID-50E has a USB type-C™ port which is widely used in the industry. It is a multi-function USB port for charging as well as PC programming, read/write contents to the microSD card, Terminal/Access Point mode support, and CI-V control.
*Use a user-supplied USB cable for charging. USB PD is not supported.

Shares same options as ID-52/ID-51/ID-31 Series
Some optional accessories for the ID-52/ID-51/ID-31 series transceivers can be used for the ID-50E. Moreover, the large capacity BP-307 battery pack, from the IC-705 is compatible with ID-50E as well.

User-friendly Menu Icons
Large icons are adopted on the Menu display. It supports quick recognition and smooth operation.

High Visible LCD with Backlight Function
The ID-50E’s large full dot LCD shows graphical information with easy-to-read characters and icons. Both main and sub frequencies can be displayed at the same time. In addition, the LCD backlight helps you to use in the dark.

750 mW Loud Audio Output Power
Built-in 750ｍW powerful audio output. The internal speaker provides loud and clear audio.

Icom will announce an exciting industry firstat the Tokyo Hamfair which opens on 20th August 2022. Based on its SHF project, the IC-905 VHF/UHF/SHF SDR transceiver will not only cover 144Mhz, 430Mhz, 1200MHz, 2400MHz, 5600MHz but 10 GHz* as well. (*Optional CX-10G transverter required)
