MAT30 is an automatic antenna tuner designed specifically for use with modern YAESU transceivers. It is compatible with a variety of models, including the FT-100, FT-857D, FT-897D, FT-450D, FT-891, FT-950, FT-991, FT-991A, and FTDX-3000, but does not support the FT-817/818. For those models, the mAT-10 tuner is recommended. The MAT30 connects to the transceiver via the CAT/LINEAR jack, which facilitates both control of the tuning cycle and powers the tuner without the need for an external power supply.
Operating the mAT-30 is straightforward; tuning is initiated by pressing and holding the TUNE button on the transceiver for one second. The tuner operates across a frequency range of 1.6MHz to 54MHz, handling power levels up to 120 watts. It is capable of tuning a wide array of antennas, including dipoles, verticals, and Yagis, making it a versatile choice for amateur radio operators. With 16,000 frequency memories, the tuner can quickly recall previous tuning parameters through its “Memory Tune” feature, allowing for efficient operation on familiar frequencies.
The interface cable included with the mAT-30 features two mini-DIN 8-pin plugs and is 50 centimetres long. If a longer distance is required between the tuner and transceiver, users can either modify the existing cable or create a custom cable using new connectors. This flexibility ensures that operators can set up their equipment according to their specific needs, enhancing the overall functionality of the mAT-30 in various operating environments.
